The flower-like feet that even Thirumal (Vishnu)—who was worshipped by Brahma (the four-faced one) and all other Devas, and who measured the worlds with two steps, measuring the earth with one step and the sky with another—searched for but could not find! Can we see the holy feet of the Lord? The Lord Himself functions as the soul (Jiva) within the human body! He makes His twin holy feet shine within the eyes of humans! The God who is the very embodiment of compassion! To receive the grace of the Lord of the Supreme Light of Grace (Arutperunjothi Andavar), we must understand and realize His holy feet embedded within us, which are our eyes, and their glory, through a proper Guru! We must perform the spiritual practice of wisdom (Gnana Sadhana). We too can attain liberation (Mukthi)! Supreme bliss.
From the elephant down to the ant, within all living creatures, Sivan, You Yourself became the soul! In human birth, becoming a microbe in the mother’s womb, You protected it for ten months and brought forth the birth! The Supreme Being who protects even the toad inside the rock and the life inside the womb! You Yourself show the way for a human to grow, live, and be redeemed along the path of karma! You take dominion over them! What kind of play is this! You Yourself create! And You sit inside that which You have created! Speaking atheism to the point of getting sores on the tongue and speaking theism to pour down a shower of grace, are both Your actions, aren’t they! You said birth is governed by the path of karma! Aren’t You the one residing inside me and making me dance! Residing inside me and acting Yourself, why do You place the burden of karma upon me, my Lord? Oh You who makes the uncomprehending, ignorant humans understand that You are hidden! Appearing in the form of Manikkavasagar, Thirumoolar, Thiruvarutprakasa Vallalar, and countless crores of sages, saints, Siddhars, and Rishis to the people of the world to [show them the way to] attain You, the supreme bliss You even showed the eye as the way to attain it! Coming as the primordial Guru (Aadhiguru), You gave teachings (Upadesam) to sages like Sanaka without even speaking a word! I praise Your grace! I praise Your golden ankleted feet! Oh Supreme Being! Oh Lord (Eesane)! I surrender!”
“Kannaar amuthak kadale potri
Thennaa dudaiya sivane potri
Ennaat tavarkkum iraivaa potri
Paeraa yiramudaip pemmaan potri”
Lord Manikkavasagar too, in his gem-like words in the Thiruvasagam, sings and spreads His glory just like everyone else saying “Oh nectar that fills the eyes”, praising the light shining in our eyes, calling Him “Oh Ocean of Grace, Oh Sivan”! Sivam – Sivan is the one who possesses the Southern land. In the world, the Southern land is South India, specifically Tamil Nadu. Here there are countless Shiva temples! Countless Nayanmars, Siddhars, sages, ascetics, Rishis, and devotees! The divine plays (Thiruvilaiyadals) of Sivan happened here, they say! That is exactly why Manikkavasagar called the Supreme Being, Sivam, as “Oh Sivan who possesses the Southern land”! It is correct, isn’t it! This Sivan – Sivam – the Light is indeed the God for all the people of the world! The one and only God! The Great Light! The Supreme Light of Grace (Arutperunjothi)! Everyone calls this God by different names! All names refer to that God alone. The people of the world have differentiated the light through language! Light is just light! If it is fire, it burns! If it is God, it is the light of grace that grants cooling supreme bliss! Light is the only thing that does not diminish no matter how much you take from it. It is complete (Pooranam)! From a single lamp, you can light a crore (ten million) lamps if you want, and it will not decrease! Light itself is God! And it resides in our eyes! Let us praise that God! All names are His names! Differences are only in sound!! There are no differences in light!! Light is one! The words that emerged from Manikkavasagar’s pupil, from the light of his pupil, are indeed this Thiruvasagam! The words of gem (Manivasagam)!
