Initiation – Deeksha

Initiation (Deeksha) is the act of stimulating the pupil of the eye with divine light. According to the songs of Siddha Pattinathar, if you ask what the “center of the eyebrows” truly is, it is the peak of the Parabrahman (the Supreme Reality) which is like the crown of the universe. This “Universe” (Andam) is as beautiful as the pupil of the eye. Its peak is its center. Therefore, the “center of the eyebrows” refers to the divine light expressed at pupil—not the space of the Ajna Chakra between the physical eyebrows on our forehead!

“Sleep in the place of equilibrium” This means “sleeping without sleeping”—remaining fixed in the light of our pupils. This is Wisdom (Gnanam). This is the Penance of the Holy Feet (Thiruvadi Thavam).

“Abide by the path of the Chakra” – Avvaiyar When Woman Siddha Avvaiyar spoke of the Chakra, she was referring to the pupil, which is shaped like a wheel. Another sage referred to this as the “Uncut Wheel” (Vettatha Chakkaram).

Deeksha (Initiation) It is also called Dheekkai. Deeksha means awakening the fire (Thee) within the Aksham. Aksham means the eye. Giving sensation to the eye—the hand that holds the fire—is Theekkai. Deeksha occurs when a Guru uses the divine light of their own eyes to stimulate the fire within the pupil of the disciple.

The subtle body (Sukshma Sarira) is the soul-atma-body. It is through Deeksha that this soul-body is born again! First, one must be born; then, one must mature; only then comes the “union” (Marriage/Mukti).

Come, be born again through Thiruvadi Deeksha!
