A person possessed by the demon of lust (excessive desire) cannot witness the form of the Divine Mother even in their dreams. It is Maya—the Great Illusion—that makes us dance to the rhythm of our past karmas by manifesting through negative traits like lust. Yet, the Divine Mother Herself is the one who governs desire; that is why She is called Kamakshi (the one whose eyes rule over desire).
There is no human without desire. So, how does one overcome it?
Think about this: Does anyone in this world feel lust toward their own mother? View every woman as a mother! View her as a form of the Divine Mother! Abirami Bhattar saw every woman as the Goddess Abirami Herself; that is why the mother manifested the full moon for him on a new moon day. Similarly, the great poet Kalidasa addressed his own wife—who was the reason he received Kali’s grace—as “Mother.” For Mahakavi Kalidasa, too, Mother Kali made the moon appear on a new moon day.
Even a one-year-old girl should be addressed as “Amma” (Mother). A sixteen-year-old maiden should also be addressed as “Amma.” If you view every woman only as “Mother,” you will attain the grace of the Divine Mother and be liberated from lust. If you surrender at the feet of the Goddess, saying, “Mother, you are my only refuge,” She will surely protect this child!
The mother who gave you this physical body is the one who feeds you milk and raises you with care. But the Divine Mother—the one who gave life to the soul-atman within this body—is the one who feeds us the Amrita (divine nectar) and nurtures our very existence. Only after this realization can we attain the Supreme Truth (Param-porul) and achieve Mukti (liberation)!
One who does not bow to his mother will become a wayward soul. If one surrenders to the Mother—who else is there in this world to embrace and protect us as She does? Without a mother, I do not exist; no one exists. Only he who understands the greatness and glory of the Mother shall attain true Wisdom (Gnana).
It was the Mother who fed the divine nectar to Sant Thirugnana Sambandar when he was but three years old. It was the Divine Mother who appeared in the form of his sister-in-law to feed Vallalar. All Siddhas and Sages praise the Mother as “Vaalai” (the youthful maiden Goddess). In the North of India, in Kashmir, Vaalai is Vaishno Devi. In the East, in Calcutta, Vaalai is Kali. In the West, in Bombay, Vaalai is Lakshmi. In the South, in Kanyakumari, Vaalai is Kanyakumari. Wherever you look, it is nothing but Shakti!
Just as mother’s milk is the best food for a newborn baby, one must drink the Amrita (nectar) given by “Vaalai” to never be born again. If you view all women as mothers, bow to Vaalai, and perform penance with devotion, you will attain the vision of Mother Vaalai. She will grant the nectar! To attain Mukti (liberation), the grace of Shakti is absolutely essential. A newborn needs its mother’s milk; to reach the state of “no more births,” we need the Vaalai Amrita!
“The Mother of Kanyakumari, ‘Vaalai,’ who provides for all living beings, brought this humble devotee here, gave me a purposeful life, made me a Guru, appeared before me, and showered her grace.
She has brought to light the ‘Jnana’ (divine wisdom) that has been hidden and kept secret by everyone in this world until now. She enabled the revelation and publication of these spiritual secrets through 26 sacred books, thereby sustaining me and all of us. By surrendering at the feet of Vaalai, I have earned merit and gained dignity.
Don’t you also wish to see that Mother Vaalai? Come to Kanyakumari (thanga jothi gnana sabai)! You can receive the grace of Vaalai, obtain numerous boons, and live a life of true excellence!”
